FUCK THE MOTHERFUCKING UNITED FUCKING STATES AND THE FUCKING FOURTH OF JULY. "LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT"? FUCK THAT, IF YOU DON'T LOVE THE EARTH MAYBE YOU SHOULD FUCKING LEAVE IT THEN, EH?

Frederick Douglass said it straight up:

'What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelly to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy - a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.

'Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the old world, travel through South America, search out every abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival.'

True today as it was then. The specific mechanisms of the slave system have changed, the essence is the same.

This month's music is from 'American slaves' as meant by Douglass, that is, slaves of the American ruling class. Some of them live inside US borders, some outside. Some are black, some not. Some are even from the middle strata, but choose to use their minds & hearts, siding with the slaves against the slavemasters.

There are some people under the impression that even though this country was founded on genocide & slavery, it's somehow mellowed out since then. Wrong. On the flip side of the same stupid-coin, there are some people under the impression that this country started out as some kind of democratic utopia, but has gone wrong after a certain point. Wrong. This country is fucked to the core. The people here, for their own sakes as well as for all the subjects & victims of this bloody empire, need an entirely new start, a new 'country' run with a new system, out of the ashes of the old.

And no, it's (probably, mostly) not your fault if you don't recognise these basic facts of life. But if you're reading this, then you are at least somewhat open-minded, so get a grip on the reality & act accordingly. Oh & listen to this music while you're at it...

BURN THE FLAG, & THE EMPIRE WITH IT!

PS. After listening again, I'm not too keen on Anti-Flag's wishy-washyness in this song (track 2). In general they tend to disappoint, despite the radical-sounding band name. It gets worse with time, see e.g. the recent song "Turncoat" on the CD "The Terror State" where they claim the problem with Bush is that he is betraying the US. First, he's not; the US has been oppressive & genocidal since its founding; second, even if you slime around & redefine 'US' as 'population of the US', saying he betrays it implies that he used to be for it, which isn't the case at all. And then these supposedly 'Anti-Flag' cowards go & put a 'Fuck the Flag' song on the album too, but only as a bonus unlisted track on a tiny percentage of the records sold. We don't need this kind of meek, compromising, crap -- especially from a punk band for cryin' out loud! These fools should follow the example of other so-called rebel musicians like Bob Dylan, give up pretenses, find religion, do some underwear adverts, etc... Anyway, apologies to listeners for including this song in an otherwise great playlist.
